PLEASE READ ALL THE ACCOMPANYING EXPLANATIONS AND NOTES

RATING SYSTEM:  A (easiest) to E (most strenuous)  Note: B- means easy B.  *means the trail may have sections with greater difficulty.  ( ) indicates route condition unknown.  Some hikes may have more than one Rating, depending on the distance and associated elevation gain.  On most hikes it is not necessary to go the full distance.  You may shorten the hike to whatever suits you.

MILES (length of hike) are approximate and are one way (return the same way), except an * indicates the total length of a loop hike or a through hike with cars at both ends.  These can be hiked in either direction.

ELEVATION GAIN is given in hundreds of feet (add two zeros).

$ indicates the suggested per passenger contribution to the driver (this may be adjusted to reflect changes in the price of gasoline).  An additional contribution for a car wash is recommended in case of muddy roads.  For overnight trips, an appropriate per passenger contribution for the trip should be arranged with the driver.

MEETING PLACES:  DH = Dos Hermanos (formerly Sopris Restaurant); LC = Lake City; MB = Moab; NN = I-70 No Name Exit; RF = Roaring Fork Marketplace, opposite Office Depot; SS = Steamboat Springs; TT = bottom of Traver Trail; WM = West Glenwood Mall, SE corner.

DOWN-VALLEYERS:  On  4/26, 5/3, 9/20, 10/4, & 10/25 meet the group at the Rifle Rest Stop 25 minutes after the stated meeting times.  On 6/2 meet at the New Castle Exit 105 (N) at 7:10 AM.

UP-VALLEYERS:  On 5/10, 5/24, 5/31, 7/14, & 8/11 meet at the Carbondale Fish Hatchery on Hwy 133 20 minutes after the stated meeting times.  On 6/30, 7/5, 7/12, 7/19, 8/16, 8/23, 9/13 & 9/22 meet at Emma Road & Hwy 82 20 minutes after the stated meeting times.

4WD:  X means access to the trailhead may require 4WD vehicles.  If you own one, please come prepared to drive on those days.

ON ALL HIKES:  Bring lunch, adequate water, rain gear, and sun protection.  On Spring and Fall hikes, be prepared for snowy or muddy trails.  On high altitude hikes, bring hat, gloves, wind-breaker, and warm layers.  The last three hikes are on Fridays and Monday to avoid rifle hunting seasons.  Nevertheless it wouldn't hurt to wear bright orange or red on those days.
